Introduction

Nowhere
The place where it seems like to exist but not in reality----Director Nakae looked for a place as such and found Aguni island in Okinawa prefecture. It is at the southern tip of Japan where he shot "Nabbie's Love".

An island in Islands
Okinawa was a small kingdom called "Ryukyu" located between Japan and China. Ryukyu people had no weapons, believed their coexistence with gods and ancestors, and protected their own rich culture for years. However, about 130 years ago, they were invaded by Japanese and forcefully became a dependency of Japan. After experiencing the tragedy of providing the toughest battle fields between Japan and Allied Forces, Okinawa was under control of the United States up until 1972.
Now, they are Japanese, but they call themselves "Uchinan-chu" (Okinawan) separating from "Yamaton-chu" (Japanese from mainland) and continue maintaining their own spiritual independence.

Music
For Aguni islanders, music is an important part of their lives.Whole through their tragic experiences in history, they never stopped expressing their joys, laughter, happiness, and sadness sometimes, by playing Sanshin, an Okinawan instrument. In "Nabbie's Love", you will enjoy many songs that Okinawan never forgot and stopped playing.

Heroine
79-year-old heroine Nabbie decides to leave the island with her first love SunRa, whom she met after 60 years of interval. Telling farewell to long married husband Keitatsu, Nabbie gets on a small boat into the sea with SunRa. Where are Nabbie and SunRa heading?

The Legend
In Okinawa there is a legendary utopian place called "Niraikanai" where gods live. Islanders believe that good or bad, human or soul, all of us come from there and go back there. "Niraikanai" accepts everything and reproduces everything. Okinawa people also believe that "Niraikanai" does not exist here on this earth.
